I'll make this as simple as possible. Your Karma is your level. If you have a Karma of 5, you are level 5. If you have a Karma of 78, you're level 78. This isn't exactly like Final Fantasy since I will allow you to go beyond level 100. A level 5 can beat a level 10 if he/she knows what they are doing and might be able to beat a level 15. A level 5 beating a level 20 however is highly unlikely and will probably never happen. In the past Final Fantasy Collisions, I've seen two level 70 assassins take down a level 100 player who had Dark Knight, Knight, and Paladin classes. So anything is possible.
Now, how do you level up? Well there are a few ways to do that, the most common is posting.
1). If you are below level 50, each 20 posts you make will grant you a level. If you are above level 50-100, each 30 posts will grant you a level. And if you are level 100-150, each 40 posts will grant you a level. Now doing it this way takes time and a lot of posting, but some prefer this way.
2). Defeat Major Villains. By Defeating a Major Villain, you will automatically gain a couple of levels without having to post as much as you would have. Simple enough? No, not really. Villains are usually far superior in power and will need quite a few people to beat them, much less kill them. So make friends!
3). Request and complete SeeD missions. If you successfully complete a SeeD mission, you will be granted a couple of levels depending on your level and the difficulty of the mission. Don't think you can just go post and assume you will instantly gain the levels. No, I will will be participating in these missions as a monster or some other difficult obstacle that you will have to overcome.
